notes:
Eric
Here is my first cut on the packages to put into the Strong Angel Linux
distro. Some general points first:
- These packages presume that the target machine is reasonably modern with a
reasonable amount of RAM. By this I mean 800MHz or better and at least 125Mb
RAM. Linux will run on much older machines perfectly well but would require
a lighter weight window manager (such as IceWM).
- There are very, very many programs that will do all the tasks listed. It
would be very easy to confuse the user with a multitude of similar programs
and I think it more important to limit choice (to improve usability) than to
provide a multiplicity of choice.
- I currently use KDE as my window manager and so my choices reflect this.
Gnome is perfectly OK but if this were chosen I would make some changes.
- All programs are Open Source except Acrobat Reader (gratis but not FLOSS).
- I would be very happy to receive suggestions on alternative programs or ones
I have missed out.
- Perhaps this email should form the basis of an editable page on your SA
Plone site?
